KOTA KINABALU: Sabah is targeting 80 per cent of its government agencies to be awarded with four-star rating in the future.
Making the call, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman congratulated the 24 government agencies who received the four-star rating award, which is the best in the country.
“This shows that it is not impossible as long as we are sincere and hardworking. Therefore, I want those who have received the award to defend your excellence, and those who have not achieve four-star rating, please continue to work hard to achieve it.
“We want 80 per cent of government agencies in Sabah to achieve the rating in the future, and if possible, we want all to achieve. There are 35 agencies, 24 have achieved it, and if we have four more in the future, we’d achieve the 80 per cent target,” he told reporters adding that healthy competition among the agencies is also encouraged.
Musa was speaking when met after presenting 2014 Financial Management Excellent Award based on accountability index by the National Audit Department to 24 government agencies, at the Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa here yesterday.
When asked about the government’s strategy in facing the volatile economy, he said the government and its agencies have to be more prudent and responsible in their spending.
“Apart from that, implementation of projects must be monitored closely as any delays in delivery will incur additional cost. All these need to be taken into account. We all of us are being prudent and responsible, we can face the economic volatility,” he added.
Meanwhile, Finance Ministry permanent secretary Datuk Pengiran Hassanel Pengiran Mohd Tahir said that the ministry is conducting yearly financial management course to ensure government agencies are compliant with the standards set.
He said that organisations are also encouraged to conduct their own in-house trainings to improve their financial management.
The 24 awarded agencies are the State Secretary Office, State Public Service Department, Rural Development Ministry, State Economic Planning Unit, State Treasury, Government Printing Department, Fisheries Department, Sabah Ports & Wharf Department, State Public Sector Training Institute, Sabah Liaison Office, Kuala Lumpur, SEDCO, Kota Kinabalu City Hall, Sabah Rubber Industry Board, Sabah Forestry Development Authority, Sabah Ports Authority, Sandakan Municipal Council, Kudat Town Board, Keningau & Beluran district offices, district councils of Ranau, Kinabatangan & Semporna, Rural Development Corporation and Sabah Fishery Development Corporation.
Also present at the event were Auditor General Tan Sri Ambrin Buang and his deputy Datuk Mustafa Saman, State Secretary Tan Sri Sukarti Wakiman, Federal Secretary in Sabah Datuk Borhan Dullah and Assistant Finance Ministers Datuk Michael Asang & Datuk Ramli Marhaban.
